    Re: Fan interaction

They have their different face. It will take time.

The main issue right now: who wants to join when the band isn't already stellar? So many kids these days are lazy - they want instant success and they dont want to be a part of something where they have to work hard.

Mr. G knew what he was doing when he packed up and left in 1992. He graduated an enormous amount of the band talent, with no replacement talent coming up. He taught no one how to read music. That was his style and you can check his records.. he did this at school after school for his entire career.

    Sad but true.

i dont think many bands are as big as what they used to be.....nothing against people that are in bad(i was also in band once),but it doesnt seem like kids are into that kinda thing as much any more...... and like he said ^, not many people want to put that much effort into it....

    Re: Fan interaction

Well for one thing, alot of the kids at Pound are made fun of if they even play in the band. These so called "popular kids" think it not popular to participate in the band in any way. That is what is sad. Also when we were in the band all different groups of kids played or participated in some way. Didn't matter who was popular and who wasn't. So my opinion those in the band are labeled with not so nice of a name now. But other things could be a factor too, just hate to see that a band once big in size has fell to maybe just a handful.

I agree with you. Too much negative stereotyping. It's completely unnecessary.

My niece plays viola. Her little friends, who play softball, tease her and tell her she's in the "DORKestra"
Their parents permit it. It's affecting her.

    Re: Fan interaction

When I was at Lee it was an honor just to be in the band. There weren't too many people that would actually make fun of us for actually being in the band. And a lot of people just came to see the band, then left after halftime(wished they would've stayed for the entire game though, for the team).

    Re: Fan interaction

Well sad but many children only react how they are raised and see nothing wrong in ridiculing another student. Cause in every town their are some parents who think they are better and too good to even talk to some. Therefore they think their child is better too and these parents talk and put down other parents and students. Therefore there are too many students seperating themselves from interacting with other students because they think they are better in some way. The rich kids can't hang out with the poor kids, stuff like that. Now that is not the case all the time, but it does happen and I hate it about as much as I hate the parents that teach this stuff.

Haha I remember playing for Burton and thinking [censored] the band as more people in it then our football team lol. I dont know how it is today, but Burton has always had a good band with alot of members.

    Re: Fan interaction

well thats one thing i can say about Appy....thats not the case....Appalachia is more like a family...everyone talks to everyone....(there are a few exceptions of course) but the majority of the kids dont put down another for reasons such as being in the band....
